In fact, they are the fangs of a dangerous rattlesnake which the photographer managed to seize mid-strike. The dad looks side-tracked in the photo, perhaps because he had trod on the snake in the scrub and was about to warn his family about it.

Miserably Enough, the snake succeeded to bite the woman and the pet dog. The dog died. But the lady made a full recovery after spending a few days in the infirmary.
