A man saw a pale, thin face in the window of his neighbor’s house. The police find something tragic inside.

Mark Holste, a policeman residing in Florida, USA received a strange phone call on 13th July 2005 from a man who claimed to have seen a little girl’s face in their neighbor’s house’s window.

Although the house has been there for the last three year, the man has never noticed any sign of children in that house before that day.

He thought that this could be a case of child abuse, so he didn’t hesitate to contact the police officer for investigation.

When the officer knocked on the door, there was no reply. So they had to break in but they could have never imagined in their dreams the things they saw in that house. Chewed-up food and trash were all over the house, along with spider webs and cockroaches crawling on the floor.

They were able to rescue a 6-year-old girl from that house, who was in a miserable condition. She was naked and almost starved, and there was only a diaper lying on the floor near her.

The policeman didn’t have any words to describe the horrible situation of the house – he reported that when he came in, the girl crawled to a corned like a crab, and tried to isolate herself. She also began making grunting noises.

The name of the girl is Danielle. The police took her to a hospital immediately. It seemed as if she is actually a 6-month-old girl. It was clear that her mother never really took care of her.

Her mother was arrested for a day and was later given house arrest for 2 years, along with probation for 3 years. Needless to say, Danielle no longer stayed with her.

Danielle got lucky after so many years of torture, since Diane and Bernie Lierows, a couple decided to adopt her. Although they had four sons, they always longer for a daughter and this was the best decision for both the couple as well as Danielle.

Just a few days before her 8th birthday, Danielle was adopted. Danielle has never really received love or compassion from anyone and was psychologically affected severely due to her past, so it was very difficult for her to adjust to the new environment and parents.

Bernie said that she was having a difficult time to adjust to the new family. She often used to eat as much as possible, before she had to vomit them, and also had at least 7 fits every day. To prevent Danielle from eating so much, they used to keep the refrigerator door locked.

One can’t really blame Danielle as well after all her mother almost used to starve her so now, she tries to eat whenever there is food, thinking that she will have to go without food for a long time.

Over the years, Danielle has improved significantly. Aged 15 now, Danielle goes to school, enjoys her father’s company and is very happy. She is still immature – her father said that she was a 2-year-old girl in a 15-year-old girl’s body.

She is gradually becoming an adult. Her parents hope that she will be independent one day, and might even marry. They compared this experience to that of a roller coaster ride, and they will never let anyone else harm Danielle ever again.
