Many of us have been taught to be on guard from the moment we step out of our front door, but it is often when we’re in a safe zone that we are vulnerable. In a recent study done by the Crime Prevention Research Center, they found that in incidences where people were kidnapped, and their kidnapper was not apprehended, more than half occurred either in the victim's house or apartment or during an encounter with the perpetrator at the victim's place of employment.

These incidents are terrifying to the victims and their families, but fortunately, there are ways for them to be avoided. It is important to remember that some children are at higher risk than others, such as those with disabilities or living alone.
